In this video, we analyze the elasticity of comebacks (specifically in the NBA) and the studies done around potential causation. The NBA has long been a league where it is known that a 10-20 point lead can evaporate within one quarter…but how much of this is an actual trend, and how much of this is just narratives that float to the top of 30 teams playing a lot of games?

"True enough. Look at the record, and it is very easy to concieve e.g. that if Brady had been drafted in the fifth round by the Lions nobody would remember him today (except maybe a Lions trivia geek.) For instance *if* he gets off the bench to start in his second year, and he improves the Lions from their actual 2-14 to maybe 3 or 4 wins, everyone says "that sucks, but what can you expect with a 5th rd pick?". The next year they draft Harrington, etc." #statistics #sports #football #pub

"Sam Hinkie is the General Manager and President of Basketball Operations of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team. Prior to being hired by the Sixers on May 14, 2013,[1] Hinkie spent eight years with the Houston Rockets. Upon becoming the Rockets' Vice President of Basketball Operations in 2007, he became the youngest Vice President in the league,[2] and was further promoted to Executive Vice President in 2010. In Houston, Hinkie promoted the use of advanced statistics in professional basketball while "second-in-command" to General Manager Daryl Morey, another widely-known advocate of advanced basketball analytics.[3][4] He has presented lectures in basketball statistics to audiences at Harvard, Stanford, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference.[1][5]" #sports #analytics #person #statistics #pub

"Daryl Morey (born 1972) is an American sports executive. He is the current general manager of the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association. He was named Assistant General Manager on April 3, 2006 and succeeded Carroll Dawson as General Manager on May 10, 2007. Morey came to the Rockets after serving three years as SVP Operations for the Boston Celtics. While with the Celtics, basketball operations was a key part of his responsibilities, including the development of analytical methods and technology to enhance basketball decisions related to the draft, trades, free agency and advance scouting of opponents for the coaching staff. His hiring follows the recent Moneyball trend of adding more advanced statistical-based analysis to the traditional use of qualitative scouting and basic statistics.[1] Several teams have hired executives with non-traditional basketball backgrounds, but the Rockets are the first NBA team to hire a general manager in this vein. He continues to be the chairperson for the annual MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. He is an avid Esports supporter and has gone to multiple MLG (Major League Gaming) events, and will serve on the Esports panel at the 2013 MIT Sloan Conference." #analytics #person #sports #statistics #Moneyball #pub
