I'm a huge fan of read-it-later apps, and I'm a really happy Instapaper user. But when I saw all of these rave reviews of Matter, a social reading app, I knew I had to give it a try. In this video I give a brief overview of what Matter is like to use, what I like about it, and whether or not I'll be switching to it.

As I'm using Logseq now on daily basis, it made sense to see how well my Roam Highlighter for Chrome integrates with the app.

Creating links to pages is simple in Logseq; you just type them! No need to use your mouse, create a page, and then point to it. If you link to a page that doesn't exist yet, Logseq creates it for you.
Apart from linking to pages outside of Logseq, you can also use the alias function to link to an internal page. This is handy for when you want to show a different label for an internal link.
Just like we can reference a page by placing its name between [[double brackets]], we can reference a block by using ((double parenthesis)) and placing its address in between.
Logseq aims to be an environment for thinking.
Two common ways to get started with Logseq are note-taking and task management.
The difference between bracket links and hashtags is purely cosmetic as they function the same.
Logseq is a networked outliner.
Finally, for aliases that you use often it's best to add a page alias.
Everything in Logseq is about the block;
Whereas most note-taking tools make linking to other notes a hassle, Logseq has a keyboard-first approach.
We recommend creating pages using links, as this will ensure an entry point to them.
It takes time to master this tool, as Logseq doesn't impose a way of working.

Obsidian is a free app with no limitations, and Matter is also free during its beta period, which has been going on for upwards of a year as of this writing. If this sounds appealing to you, I highly suggest trying out both apps.

Your system also needs to be flexible enough to handle anything from a short article you want to read later when you have some free time to a YouTube video or research material for a big project you’re researching.

While I still think DEVONThink’s power outpaces my needs, the app has worked exceedingly well for storing all sorts of information, quickly unearthing that information, and finding connections between files I never knew existed.
But DEVONThink on the Mac has jumped aboard the same backlinking train as Obsidian, Roam, Craft, and other heralded note-taking and research apps.

Articles I save always as Markdown to my reference database for later reference. The DEVONthink capture feature is one of the most useful features I know. It grabs the article, cleans it from advertising and layout elements, and converts it Markdown, including all links.

Craft includes excellent sharing options to other formats: a nicely formatted email, PDF, Microsoft Word, Markdown, and Textbundle, which allows a complete export of your database to other apps like Bear or Obsidian. In addition, notes can be shared between apps like Ulysses, Day One, DevonThink, and Things.
I use Craft as a Zettelkasten-style note-taking system fed by a healthy reading habit.
The steps to export your Craft data really couldn’t be more straightforward. Select all your notes and use the export to Markdown function. This creates a nested folder of all your notes in Markdown text format alongside images, PDFs, or other files stored in Craft. Next, open the folder as a vault in Obsidian. That’s it.
