"An API into your person could be quick and useful. Nothing sensitive need be contained, just something that could list out your social accounts (all of them), tell me where you're currently located, where you've been, etc. It would be cool to expose some dynamic data like calculated age, latest blog/social media post, or other non-private data. So, I made one. You can access my personal API at /api. It's got everything listed above, plus a little extra about my usual languages and frameworks. It supports JSONP with an optional callback parameter (/api?calback=foo). No keys required, possible uses for an API like this (especially if others implement something similar) include: dynamically calculated ages for operators of a 'personal API' statistics on languages and frameworks graphing operating locations dynamically display latest blog posts operating a repository of users' associated social accounts ?" #geeky #@to_do #APIs #quantified_self #personal_APIs #@to_check_out #interesting #suggestions #lists #pub

"Personable Personable is a personal API service that everybody can use. Inspired by Joshua Beckman's Personal API(http://www.bckmn.com/blog/how-to-access-my-personal-api), I wanted to put something together that everybody could have, quickly and easily, and without too much headache. Personable is written in Python/Django, Angular and Bootstrap." #python #geeky #javascript #@to_do #APIs #quantified_self #personal_APIs #@to_check_out #Django #interesting #open_source #suggestions #pub

"EXTRAORDINARY IMAGES Autographer takes very different photographs. They are always natural, unexpected and completely authentic." Pricey as hell at $400 and is sort of big, but has a lot of things Memoto/Narrative doesn't have like 5 sensors: "Accelerometer Measuring how quickly or slowly Autographer is accelerating. Magnetometer Autographer’s compass, determining the camera direction. Temperature Autographer’s thermometer, measuring ambient temperature. Colour sensor Autographer’s ‘eye’, perceiving light and brightness. PIR Autographer’s motion detector, using infrared to sense changing conditions. GPS Autographer’s locator, calculating the camera’s position on Earth." Keybase keybase.io
Keybase is a website, but it's also an open source command line program. Let's walk through a terminal example, which illustrates what Keybase does. All of this can be embedded into other software, written by anyone. The keybase command to the left looks up your pal, "maria", whom you know on github and twitter. In her case, you get back her usernames, which you recognize. > keybase id twitter://maria_h20 > keybase id reddit://maria_leah # etc... these will all find her Note you also could've referred to her directly by her twitter username, as this command shows. Either way, Keybase acquires maria's public key, and public announcements of her public key. The keybase server tells the keybase client where she tweeted, where she posted her gist, etc., and the client actually checks all of them. In maria's case, it also provides a bitcoin address, which she signed with her private key. This signature is verified too. So if you want to send her money, this is safe and easy. #beta #niche #unique_spin #geeky #interesting #authentication #web_2.0 #social_media #open_source #security #dev #pub

Last seemingly remaining app around that saves what you search..though I'm not sure if they are actually saving the whole page or not like they seem to say they are. I don't just need search history (which is helpful too of course, but no where near the same AT ALL)

Try a new kind of bookmarking app. Automatically saves your browsing history then gives you powerful search tools. Never lose a website again. #website_logging #release_notes #productivity_fun #geeky #$kippt_bookmark #pub

"The traitorous eight are eight men who left Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory in 1957. William Shockley had in 1956 recruited a group of young PhD graduates with the goal to develop and produce new semiconductor devices. While Shockley had received a Nobel Prize in Physics and was an experienced researcher and teacher, his managing of the group created harsh working conditions.[note 1] He chose a strategy for circuit design that failed and created an intolerable working atmosphere.[note 2] The group of PhD graduates hired demanded that Shockley be replaced. When their demands were rebuffed, they realized they had to leave. Shockley described their leaving as a "betrayal". The eight who left Shockley Semiconductor were Julius Blank, Victor Grinich, Jean Hoerni, Eugene Kleiner, Jay Last, Gordon Moore, Robert Noyce and Sheldon Roberts. In August 1957 they reached an agreement with Sherman Fairchild and on September 18, 1957 they formed Fairchild Semiconductor. The newly founded Fairchild Semiconductor soon grew into a leader of the semiconductor industry. In 1960 it became an incubator of Silicon Valley, and was directly or indirectly involved in the creation of dozens of corporations such as AMD and Intel.[1] These many spin-off companies came to be known as "Fairchildren"."

"When it came time for me to take over Pinboard, I vowed to continue my grandfather's committment to Eastern European craftsmanship and traditional Polish customer service. But then I got bored and thought, "eh, just put it online and see what happens." That was six years ago today. Here is the traditional set of statistics: 201020112012201320142015 bookmarks3.527537697122 tags (M)1176135178212251 active users (K)2.81623232425 bytes archived (T)0.23.05.98.814.220.9 unique URLs (M)2.51632486382
As you can see, growth in data stored has been fairly linear and the number of active users has crept up to the 25K mark. I changed the business model of the site in January from a one-time signup fee to a recurring fee, but has this affected income? It doesn't feel like it. Possibly it has. I really need to look into it. I am a terrible businessman. Thanks for another year entrusting me with your precious data, and giving me the genuinely pleasant feeling that comes from running a useful project.
