It was built as a carrier for the Soviet space craft Buran, it had survived the dissolution of Soviet Union, storage time, repairs and refurbishment, financial difficulties and problems and would serve for many years, carrying huge objects, machines and cargo only to end its career as a victim of battle that took place around it.
