Proton has unveiled its new Proton Mail desktop app, now available for Windows and macOS users, with a Linux version currently in beta testing. This desktop application adds to Proton's existing suite of web and mobile applications, providing users with the ability to manage their emails privately across multiple devices beyond a web browser.

The Proton Mail desktop apps offer a dedicated email experience, incorporating all the productivity features of the web app. This enables users to navigate through their emails and events more efficiently, without the potential distractions of a web browser.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with your device, the Proton Mail desktop apps can synchronize with your desktop’s light or dark mode, display notifications natively, and facilitate swift switching between mail and calendar.

Using a separate app from your browser for email and calendar management presents additional security advantages. This includes safeguarding your emails and events against rogue browser extensions and enabling automatic updates independently of your browser.

The Proton Mail desktop app is available for immediate download. Proton adds that users on a free Proton plan will receive a 14-day free trial to get started.
