Nobara Project , a Fedora-based Linux distribution optimized for gaming and content creation, has released its latest version, Nobara 40. This new version features updated desktop environments, including KDE Plasma 6.1.1 and GNOME 46, both of which bring new functionalities and improvements. A notable change is the introduction of a Python GUI application for updates, which replaces the old monolithic bash script and integrates with the Nobara Package Manager, making update management more convenient from the system tray.

Nobara 40 operates on the Linux kernel 6.8.12 and includes patches for various devices, such as Surface tablets and T2 MacBooks. The update also boasts improved driver support, featuring the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers and regularly updated Mesa Vulkan drivers tailored for diverse hardware configurations. The distribution reinforces its gaming capabilities with better support for Gamescope and enhanced integration with the Steam platform, which is particularly beneficial for devices like the Steam Deck. Content creators will find value in the updates to OBS Studio, including the Media Playlist Source plugin and improved HDR capture support.
