The full build, in Chrome
The Chrome Web Store copy of histre is trimmed to meet the store's data rules. This is the complete extension, loaded from a folder instead of the store.
Installing
- Unpack the zip into a folder you will keep, such as a histre folder in your home directory. Chrome loads the extension from there every time it starts.
- Remove the store copy if you have one, at chrome://extensions. Two copies would both try to save your notes.
- Turn on Developer mode on the same page. The switch is in the top right.
- Click Load unpacked and choose the folder. The histre icon appears in the toolbar.
- Sign in to histre in the same browser. Your notes, highlights and history are in your account, not in the extension, so nothing is lost.
Updates
Chrome only auto-updates extensions from its store. This copy checks histre once a day and shows a notice when a newer version is out. To update, unpack the new zip over the same folder and click the reload arrow on the histre card at chrome://extensions.
Good to know
- Chrome shows a "Disable developer mode extensions" bubble at startup while this is loaded. Close it; everything keeps working.
- Edge users do not need any of this. The Edge store build is already the full build.
- The extension is open source. The zip is built from that repository with nothing removed. What it stores is covered in the privacy policy.
