As a commenter on Hacker News states about the site/theory, "Ladder theory is a ridiculous construct for people desperately trying to understand love from a purely intellectual point of view. It strikes me as one of those things that's correct enough to make it look like they have something; but at the same time, its reductionistic viewpoint causes you to close yourself off from wonderful friendships that end up developing into something more. And you won't realize you're doing this until it's happened several times...if you ever introspect enough to realize that. That is the problem with something like this: it isn't intellectually rigorous, it just has the facade. The cost of simply holding the belief is higher than what you get out of it. It is not a truism, it's some kid writing on his blog." #social #dynamics #society #sex #relationships #interesting #pua #males #females #heirarchy #status #pub
"What do you do when you’re tired of the prospect of dating? Two good friends with opposite relationship problems found themselves single at the same time. As an experiment, they dated for 40 days. Love is a central theme in humanity across time and cultures. It’s one of the main topics in music, film, novels, poetry, and art. But what exactly is it, and why do we all approach it so differently? How does it affect us so deeply that sane people have gone mad over it? The dating life in New York City can grow tiresome and wearing. Tim is afraid of commitment, often dating many girls at once, and he’s losing sight of what a healthy relationship means. Jessica is a hopeless romantic, jumping into relationships too quickly, always looking to find “the one.” It’s been said that it takes 40 days to change a bad habit. In an attempt to explore and hopefully overcome their fears and inadequacies, Tim and Jessica will go through the motions of a relationship for the next 40 days: the commitment, time, companionship, joys and frustrations. Can they help each other, or will they fall into their same habits? Will they damage their friendship? What if they fall in love?" "Jessica Walsh is a designer based in New York City. "Mojo Upgrade is an interactive sex questionnaire for couples. We present a list of sexual fantasies to both partners separately and have them indicate their level of interest. After the couple has finished the survey, we compare the answers. If you both gave a positive response to an activity, then we'll share it; if not, we don’t. That way if your partner is not game to watch midget porn with you, they won't know." #sex #relationships #quizzes #interesting #@to_try #@to_recommend #dating #from #delicious #pub
