"EXTRAORDINARY IMAGES Autographer takes very different photographs. They are always natural, unexpected and completely authentic." Pricey as hell at $400 and is sort of big, but has a lot of things Memoto/Narrative doesn't have like 5 sensors: "Accelerometer Measuring how quickly or slowly Autographer is accelerating. Magnetometer Autographer’s compass, determining the camera direction. Temperature Autographer’s thermometer, measuring ambient temperature. Colour sensor Autographer’s ‘eye’, perceiving light and brightness. PIR Autographer’s motion detector, using infrared to sense changing conditions. GPS Autographer’s locator, calculating the camera’s position on Earth." Pretty bad ass. #quantified_self #logging #automated #photos #life_stream #gadgets #tech #products #@wish_list #geeky #cool #pricey #price:$400 #pub

"Thanks to Qualcomm's pristine balance sheet with roughly $30 billion in net cash, very reliable free cash flow, and a solid multi-year path for growth, it has now become the world's most valuable semiconductor company, even with a revenue base that's just half of Intel's" ----- "..Patents Roughly two-thirds of Qualcomm's profits actually come from its wireless technology licensing business. This is a fabulously profitable business segment, as the company collects royalties on just about every 3G/4G device sold. Now, since the transition to 3G/4G is happening at a rather brisk pace...Qualcomm should see some very nice top and bottom-line growth in its QTL business segment. -- The remaining one-third of the company's profit base (but the vast majority of its revenue base) comes from chips. Think Snapdragon SoCs, Gobi modems, Atheros Wi-Fi, and various other wireless components. Qualcomm's business model works because it has a nearly inexhaustible source of income from its patent licensing business, meaning that the company can..aggressively invest in new areas of growth." ----- "Intel's operating profit comes from two divisions: the first is the PC client group, which consists of CPUs/SoCs/chipsets for notebooks, desktops, and high-end tablets, and the second is the data-center group, which consists of server CPU/chipset sales and other various data-center-oriented products...and, combined, they generate far more operating income than Qualcomm's businesses generate, but they're not as "safe" #semiconductors #tech #finances #stocks #@Bharat #pub

_So in 2013, revenue of $316 million, profits of $129 million, and $130 million paid to a separate company created by Notch, licensing the IP_ "Mojang more than doubled its profits in 2013, earning around $130 million in total. According to data given to The Wall Street Journal, the Minecraft developer increased its profits from SEK325 million to SEK816 million ($129 million) in 2013. Revenues were also on the rise, up 38 per cent from 2012 to hit SEK2.07 billion ($316 million). Overall, 38 per cent of the company's total revenue came from sales of the PC version of Minecraft. Console sales accounted for 30 per cent, and around 25 per cent came from the game's mobile version. The fact that Mojang's earnings are still rising on the basis of a five-year-old game is testament to its lasting appeal." #ballers #games #money #revenue #statistics #tech #pub

"The traitorous eight are eight men who left Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory in 1957. William Shockley had in 1956 recruited a group of young PhD graduates with the goal to develop and produce new semiconductor devices. While Shockley had received a Nobel Prize in Physics and was an experienced researcher and teacher, his managing of the group created harsh working conditions.[note 1] He chose a strategy for circuit design that failed and created an intolerable working atmosphere.[note 2] The group of PhD graduates hired demanded that Shockley be replaced. When their demands were rebuffed, they realized they had to leave. Shockley described their leaving as a "betrayal". The eight who left Shockley Semiconductor were Julius Blank, Victor Grinich, Jean Hoerni, Eugene Kleiner, Jay Last, Gordon Moore, Robert Noyce and Sheldon Roberts. In August 1957 they reached an agreement with Sherman Fairchild and on September 18, 1957 they formed Fairchild Semiconductor. The newly founded Fairchild Semiconductor soon grew into a leader of the semiconductor industry. In 1960 it became an incubator of Silicon Valley, and was directly or indirectly involved in the creation of dozens of corporations such as AMD and Intel.[1] These many spin-off companies came to be known as "Fairchildren"."
